6 international companies compete for gas in Egypt
Six international companies specialized in the field of oil and gas are competing to win natural gas search and exploration deals in 12 concessions in the Mediterranean Sea and the Nile Delta, within the bidding run by the Egyptian “EGAS”, for which applications were closed last month, according to a government official.
Earlier this year, Egypt extended the closing date of the bidding, which was launched in December 2022, from April until mid-July, and then until last August, to allow more time for bidding companies.
He revealed that the companies that applied to bid were: the Italian “Eni”, the British “BP”, the American “Chevron”, the Dutch “Shell”, “Energen”, and “Sheron Petroleum”.
Yesterday, Monday, Egypt launched a new bid to international companies to explore oil in 23 new areas, half of which are onshore areas, including 10 areas in the Western Desert, two areas in the Eastern Desert, in addition to 7 areas in the Gulf of Suez and 4 areas in the Red Sea.
Egypt has partially succeeded in transforming into an energy center in the region by liquefying gas and re-exporting it, after it stopped importing gas at the end of 2018 and turned into an exporter of it.
